Postpartum Care
Cultures around the world have revered the postpartum period as a time of profound significance, honoring the mama-baby dyad with practices that celebrate new life and support maternal well-being. Known as the Fourth Trimester, many cultures prioritize a period of rest time for Mothers in the early postpartum window that ranges anywhere from 21-60 days. It is believed that when a Mother is properly cared for during this time, she has the possibility to regenerate and emerge with vibrant health for future decades to come.
Sitting out for a stretch of time isn’t realistic for most women in today’s Western society. Through this lens, my approach to serving Mothers is to customize each session based on their unique needs with nourishing foods, herbs, and warming treatments to heal & harmonize the body and mind during this transformational period.
Postpartum Offerings:
Based on the time we have and your unique needs and/or budget, my care includes:
preparing nourishing, nutrient dense, easily digestible foods
preparing collagenous, restorative bone broth & healing herbal infusions
providing warming treatments to help cleanse, heal and restore the body: herbal sitz baths, pelvic steam, foot soak, massage
lactation and feeding support
baby care (if desired) while Mother tends to bathroom needs
tend to other children while mother-baby rest
offer guidance around newborn care: baby wearing, diapering, soothing
light housework/tidying up
provide local referrals if needed
hold space to share and process feelings around the birth, postpartum, and newborn experience.
I recommend 2 sessions per week for at least the first 15 days (6 weeks encouraged) when planning visits in the postpartum time. Length of sessions range around 2-3 hours but vary based on needs.
